Managing a Discussion Board

Managing a Discussion Board

The first step in order to create a Discussion Board, is to create the forum groups by which the
forums will be organized. To do this, select Manage Forum Groups at the top of main page of the
Discussion Forum.

You'll be presented with a list of the Forum Groups and the option to Add Forum Group. To the
right of each Forum Group is the button to delete that particular Forum Group.

When you click on a Forum Group, you can edit the name of the Forum Group and add and delete forums
from that group. You'll also be presented with the option to set this forum group as root. This
would mean that this group can only hold other Forum Groups. Unless you're creating a board with an
extensive hierarchy of forums, this should be set to no.

Adding a forum is as simple as selecting the Add Forum link towards the bottom of the page. You can
enter the name of the Forum, a description of the forum that will appear under the name in the Forum
Group, toggle it enabled (A disabled forum will not appear to regular users), and choose the Forum Group in
which the forum should appear.

Once a forum is set up, inside it you'll notice four buttons at the top - Subscribe, Manage Forum,
Add New Topic
, and Security. Subscribing to the Forum allows you to receive email notification of forum
activity. Manage Forum allows you to rename the forum and toggle whether it is enabled or not, Add New Topic
allows you to begin a thread, and Security presents you with the permission settings to be able to set who
can read and participate. The permissions set for the workspace should apply to forums created in it as well.

On the threads themselves, Administrators will be able to see the option to Edit, Delete, Archive,
and Lock the threads. Edit allows the original post's content to be changed, Delete removes the post
or thread entirely, while Archive removes a thread from view of regular users. Lock prevents any
further replies to a thread, while users are still able to view the post.
